Meditating on Psalm 103 and Isaiah 62, the lyrics for “Cover” came to me as a grown-up lullaby of sorts, a gentle word from a faithful Lord who’s unfailing love can heal our deepest hurts.
Lyrics
You may never know a man whose hands can speak to you
Both of tenderness and strength
You may never know a man whose heart can sing to you
Both of passion and of faithfulness
But I will draw you with an everlasting kindness
I will cover you with a love that knows no fear or shame
I will spread my arms to pierce my hands, my heart, my side
I will cover you with a love from which you need not hide
You may find yourself abandoned and forsaken
All your trust is bruised and torn
You may find that a man’s word and promises
Are as faithless as your own
But I will draw you with an everlasting kindness
I will cover you with a love that heals all guilt and pain
I will spread my arms to pierce my hands, my heart, my side
I will cover you with a love on which you can rely
I will cross the world to gather you together
Radiant in my arms
I will call you ‘In her is all of my delight’
For I have wed my heart to you
